What is statistically the best day of the week to send out an opt-in
business-oriented monthly email newsletter? What day has the best
click through ratio? Are newsletters sent on a Wednesday, opened more
in general, than those on a Monday?

Days of the week are a very important factor in sending out
newsletters. I’ve assembled a list of links to a number of excellent
articles that include interesting statistics related to what you

Results from an E-mail Marketing Trend Report prepared by DoubleClick
show that consumers prefer to respond to email offers from publishers
on the weekends and to email offers from marketers between Tuesdays
and Thursdays.

“Consumers Respond To Email Offers From Marketers and Publishers On
Different Days. The best days to achieve high click-through rates on
email campaigns varied for both marketers and publishers. The data
reveals that marketers have the highest click-through rates between
Tuesdays and Thursdays with an average of 6.5%, while publishers have
the highest click-through rates on the weekends with an average rate
of 9.4%. These results indicate that consumers tend to respond to
marketing offers during the week possibly from work where the
connection speed is higher, while they prefer to read newsletters from
publishers on the weekend when they have more leisure time.”

According to Teresa Williams author of the article “When is the Best
Time to Advertise on the Internet”, Wednesday is  the best day of the
week for sending out newsletters.
 
Monday
“Internet users are usually dreading the first day of the week. The
kids are back to school and the hectic week starts all over again.
Usually Monday is a very slow day to make sales. People are just
exhausted getting through Mondays.

Tuesday
They have survived Monday and are now getting into the routine of the
week. Tuesdays are the start of making sales on the internet. Start
the advertising campaigns today.

Wednesday 
This is the day of the week to focus on all advertising campaigns.
Start them as early as possible. People are reading their emails from
Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday is a very active day on the internet.
Advertise the entire day and evening if possible.

Thursday
This is the last day of the advertising campaign of the week.
Advertise all day and evening again.

Friday 
For those employees who have energy left from the daily grind of
working, this is the time to relax. This is usually family time.”
A test was run in a newsletter where 2 identical ads were placed, one
on Wednesday and one on Saturday. The ad that ran on Wednesday
received almost three times the response as the ad that ran on
Saturday.
