Hello desdemona-ga,

I have found information on John Wilson born in Pontyberem, Carmarthen
in 1847. However, the information is taken from the 1881 British
Census, not the 1901.

I have searched the 1901 British Census (
http://www.census.pro.gov.uk/ ) for: every man named Wilson born in
Carmarthen; every man named Wilson 54 years of age plus or minus 2
years born in Wales; and every man named John Wilson living in Leeds
(searching just for Wilson in Leeds produces too many results for the
search engine to handle). I found no results that matched the
information you've provided. I only found a 54 year old John Wilson
born in Flint Wales, and 53 and 55 year old John Wilsons living in
Leeds and born in Victoria Australia and Leeds, respectively. You can
try searching the census to see if you get better results.

If you do not find anything better than I have, I can provide
information from the 1881 census as an answer. I did not view the
actual page from the census, but I did find the information listed on
it, including birth year, birthplace, age, occupation, marital status,
dwelling address, and census place. If you wish, I can also indicate
how you could look at the microfilm for that census, as well as the
1901 census if you still want to look at that.

Would this information be a sufficient answer?

In reply to your query,I would confirm that I have a copy of the
relevant page of the 1881 census, which shows the correct John
Wilson, aged 34,lived in Bedford St,Leeds, and indicates his birthplace
as Pontyberem,Carmarthen.
I know that he died in Leeds in 1913 aged 66 years.I think that we
can, fairly safely, assume that he lived in Leeds at the time of the
1991 census.I have repeatedly tried to search for him via
http://www.census.pro.gov.uk,but with no syccess. Can you succeed where
I failed?.
