Where can I get/buy an instrumental version of the song "Russians" by Sting & The Police. I know about Sting: The Ultimate Tribute. But it's a orchestra version of the song. I'm really looking for the actual song, just without the lyrics. | |

I have found several karaoke versions of "Russians," but (as is typical of karaoke) none of them that I've located have the actual instrumentals from the original Police recording. Perhaps this is due to copyright concerns. Have you considered using your computer to remove the vocals from "Russians," using phase-cancellation software? Here's some useful information about this technique, with links to two products: http://www.techtv.com/callforhelp/howto/story/0,24330,3402280,00.html |

what a great utility!!! I've been having fun with it on other songs. But unfortunatly, it didn't work with "Russians" (it made everything distorted and out of synch). I will accept that what I'm looking for may not exist. But I'll leave the question open should anyone happen to know about a version. Sorry for taking up your time pinkfreud. (and thanks for the phase-cancellation software!!) |

Kids, you too can have fun with phase cancellation on your very own home stereo using this simple technique: Take one of your speakers and, instead of plugging both of its leads into (say) the left-speaker sockets, plug one of the leads into the red left-speaker socket and the other lead into the red right-speaker socket. What happens is you get the left channel and the right channel heading in opposite directions across the speaker (basically) and cancelling any sounds out that are common to both speakers. This is usually mostly the voice and some main instrumental tracks. The background instrumentals will often be much more noticeable, and sometimes it makes it easier to pick out that guitar part you've been trying to figure out for ages. Also, for some songs, it sounds really weird and cool. Warning: may not be too healthy for your speakers or amp, but really I don't know why it would harm anything. Anyone with a degree in audio technology care to comment? |
