Question ID: 13012
Who is the girl with the headset who appears in so much advertising
(at least here in UK) these days? Is her photo (actualy more than one
photo of the same girl) taken from a particular stock photo
collection?
An example of her is at
http://www.ambassador-packaging.co.uk/store/images/girl.jpg
Now you've seen her you'll spot her everywhere, I promise you!

Note to rebecca m

No they are not all exactly the same image, I would say all have the
same headset, and were probably taken on the same occasion. And I can
guarantee that the companies were unconnected. Ambassador Packaging
is part of Pactiv, the loan company looked as though it was a very
small outfit when I browsed their website, the modem came from GVC,
and another of the users was a Building Society (a mutual society for
investement and mortgages, a British thing that is sort of half way
between a Credit Union and a Bank).

I will regard the question as answered by the first person who tells me
1) What country she comes from
AND
2) What the source of the photos is (what website or CD-ROM they are taken from).

These photos are part of Digital Vision's stock photography
collection. Specifically, their "Business Communication" CD, though
images can be licensed individually.

See:

http://www.digitalvisiononline.com/index.asp?asp_page=http://www.digitalvisiononline.com/search/cd_contents.asp?cd_code=74&start=26&images=6

The identity of the models is usually confidential, but since Digital
Vision is an American company, based in New York, and the image
descriptions include the keyword "African-American", I think it's very
likely that she's an American woman. If you contact Digital Vision,
they may or may not be able to provide you with more information, such
as where the photographs were taken.

As for other stock photography subjects who find their faces plastered
all over everything, you might be interested in this article about
George Chen, who found his face end up on dozens of commercial web
sites:

Yes, I agree, plus some of the poses she adopts in the other photos on
that site make her look much more American than the ones in the photos
I had seen.

Thanks!

I'm working on finding her name, but wanted to let you know that it's
not likely from stock photos or clip art. It's clearly a recently
taken print ad, most likely booked through an agent that represent
actors/models for print work (I say that based on my being such an
actor with such an agent on the lookout for such jobs :)

I'll keep you posted on the name search.

reply to rebecca m.

well, the identical girl appeared in adverts for a loan company in Uk
and on the box my modem came in, not to mention a couple of other
instances I've seen which I can't remember but were totally
unconnected with any of the above. She seems to be regarded by
companies as ideal for anything promoting telephony or telephone
customer service. I assumed she actually worked for one of the
companies until I started seeing her in so many places!

and by the way, i'm not trying to track her down or get her name,
address, and telephone number! she did catch my imagination a bit :-)
(i'm too old!) but it was just the curious fact of seeing her in so
many places that was bugging me and made me try asking here.

Aah - I misunderstood. In any case, I wonder if the companies are
somehow related... might they share a parent company? (Perhaps that's
a more common occurence in the States - totally unrelated companies
being owned by one super-conglomorate.) Is it the very same image?
If they're different pictures, it may just be that she is having a
popular streak... that's common in commercial advertising.

Michel

Thanks for making me laugh! Fascinating that she's not the only one.
Had you been noticing this older lady everywhere, or did you find her
by some mysterious means when looking for the "young and pretty" one?

Guess I shouldn't be wasting people's time with this fruitless stuff.

Peter
