Provide a historical table of processor performance from 1992 to the
present, looking at CPUs from Intel, IBM, Digital (Alpha), and SUN.

How do you mean performance? Instructions per second or speed? Also,
do you want all processors developed by the companies, ie, for IBM the
RISC, AS/400, PowerPC, etc?

I would like the most powerful processor from each company named, MIPs
is just fine. It is relative performance I'm looking for.

Hello mrpiii-ga

The most comprehensive processor performance table I sourced, dated
back around 1986 to perhaps the first half of 2002, is listed below:

'Compilation of ratings' based on the bogoMIPS rating.
INTEL: from 386sx to Pentium 4 1700 MHz
CYRIX: from 5x86/100 to 6x86M/266
AMD: from K5/75 to Athlon XP/1600
CENTAUR: from C6/200 to VIA III/700
ALPHA: from 21064/150 Jensen to 21264DP/833 Tsunami
MOTOROLA: from 68030/14.7 to 68060/66
SPARC: from Sparc sun4c to Sparc Ultra II/450
POWERPC: from PowerPC 601 to PowerPC G4/500

This PDF document outlines the historical developments in
microprocessor technology and industy to 1997. The chart on page 31

timeframe for each processor

Other partial data is available from but not
for the full 1992-2002 range:

Top SPEC performance microprocessors for 1998 (OCT)
Top SPEC performance microprocessors for 1998 (NOV)

Search Strategy:
Google search string - 1996 processor processing power 1992 1993
Google search string - bogomips
Google search string - performance mip OR mips rating OR powerpc
ratings intel amd sun digital
Google search string - specint specfp performance intel amd powerpc
Google search string - mips performance benchmarks microprocessors

I hope the performance figures above are satisfactory to cover the
period 1992-2002, allowing for limitations in the available data.
e.g. a SPEC CPU95 result of a 1996 tested processor cannot be directly
compared to a 2002 processor test using the SPEC CPU2002 benchmark.

If you need any clarification of the answer, just ask.
Kind regards
