There were many persons named John Clark born in Scotland in 1830, as
well as in 1829. Do you happen to know what your great-grandfather's
specific birthdate and birthplace were? Did he have a middle name?
Also, do you know who he was married to, and perhaps when and where
the marriage occurred? What were the names of their children, and
when and where were they born?

I have specifically found a John Clark born in Dunfermline on an
unknown date in 1830, as well as two persons named John Clarke born in
Dunfermline on 2 March 1829 and 30 January 1830 respectively. Was
your great-grandfather's name spelled with or without the final "e"?

I have also seen evidence of other persons named John Clark born in
Fife in 1830. One was born on 5 February 1830 in Auchterderran
(possibly in Village of Greenheads), while another was born on 14
November 1830 in Leuchars. Given that your great-grandfather was
listed as age 62 upon his death, the earlier date is a better
possibility. While I suspect that the John Clark born in Dunfermline
is the one you are looking for, do you think that the John Clark born
in Auchterderran might be correct?

I have found the date of birth for David Clark and the date of
marriage of his parents (with a slightly different spelling of his
mother's first name).

Do you think that it is likely that John Clark's parents were named
William and Margaret? If so, I would suppose that those names, in
combination with the other information I have just indicated, would be
enough to answer the question. But, of course, it is up to you to
decide whether this is indeed enough.
