How can I get a list of all traffic fatalities in my state(or any
other state)?
It does not appear that this type of motor vehicle accident
information is readily available/accessible. |

mikist -
I have the response ready to go - but realize that you may have wanted
to see an actual list of every single accident that included
fatalities.
Is this what you are looking for?
If so, at what level would you like the information - or, would
statistical summaries be sufficient?
thanks,

I am looking for the names of the deceased and the exact location of the accidents.
Thank you.

If you're still interested in an answer to this question, let me know
what state you're in, and I'll see what I can do regarding information
from that one state -- I can't answer the question for all 50 states,
as each one has different systems of record-keeping for accidents.

You're right. This type of information is not routinely available.
However, as best as I can tell it *might* be available through a
Freedom of Information request via the instructions below. The state
definitely has the information. But it also has a lot of lattitude as
to when it does or does not make available personal details such as
names of accident victims. In my experience, you are likely to get
information on the locations/dates of fatal accidents; less likely to
get names.
But it can't hurt to make the request and see what happens. Go to the
link below and access the Freedom of Information Form.
http://www.nydmv.state.ny.us/abstract.htm#WHAT
"Available Records"
"Frequently requested DMV records are driver abstracts, vehicle
registration abstracts, title abstracts and accident reports. You can
use form MV-15 (Request for Driver and / or Vehicle Information) to
request many types of DMV records. You can use form MV-198C (Request
for Copy of Accident Report) to request copies of accident reports
filed by the police and motorists." [note from pafalafa-ga: this form
is only good for a single report of a known incident].
"If a record you request is not listed on form MV-15 or on form
MV-198C, use form MV-15F (Freedom of Information Law Request Form)."
-----
I'm not posting this as an answer, since I don't know for a fact it
will get you the information you're after. Afraid this is the best I
can do, though.
