Hi hedge! There are many opinions about what made the first lunar landing significant. Some would say it was significant simply because no one had done it before. Others would say it was because the US Space Program beat the Soviets to it. Whatever your own opinion on the subject, there are plenty of pages discussing it. "The Moon Landing" [ http://web.mit.edu/sts001/www/Team13/moon_landing.html ] "United States Moon Landing - Questions and Answers" [ http://www.grc.nasa.gov/WWW/K-12/Missions/Virginia/Moonla_1_ans.htm ] "Buzz Aldrin plans the next leap" - MSNBC Technology (July 15th, 2001) [ http://www.msnbc.com/news/289772.asp?cp1=1 ] "Apollo's ultimate legacy: human survival" [ http://www.benbova.net/apollo.htm ] For a comprehensive list of places to go for Lunar information, have a look at the Lunar and Planetary Institute's link list, here: [ http://www.lpi.usra.edu/expmoon/moonwebsites.html ] Thanks for your inquiry! missy-ga | |

I think you might be really interested in the sites linked here: http://dmoz.org/Bookmarks/S/stevesliva/Cultural_Effects_of_Apollo/ Granted, I did my research over three years ago, but there are some gems there and they all still seem to be live. |
