Hi rich325-ga,

I have checked your site listing, and it is actually listed under the
following category in the Google Directory:

Business > Energy and Environment > Utilities > Gas and Electricity

The listing iteself is as follows:

"UK Power - http://www.ukpower.co.uk/
UK Power savings calculators provide independent supplier cost results
to locate the best prices. Frequently asked questions, business
inquiry form, and links to government services."

The directory URL you have given in your question is actually part of
a tree structure that does not have any entries in it directly. What
you will see is further subcategories you can choose to narrow your
search, or you can perform a search on the entire group of sites under
that particular category.

There are two reasons your site is appearing in the Google Directory:
1. A volunteer from the Netscape Open Directory Project cam across
your site and felt that it was appropriate for the category you have
now been placed. More information on this project can be found here:

http://dmoz.org/about.html

2. You submitted your own site for inclusion in the Google Directory.

The following Google help page contains information on how web pages
are submitted to the directory. Relevant content is shown below:

"How can I submit a web page to the Google Directory?

The web pages in the Google directory have been selected by thousands
of volunteer editors from the Netscape Open Directory Project. If you
would like to submit a web page to be included in future versions of
the directory, you may submit the web page directly to the Open
Directory by following the instructions."

Instructions for submitting your site the the Open Directory are as
follows:

1. Determine whether a site is appropriate for submission to the ODP
2. Do a quick search in the directory at dmoz.org (the home of the
Open Directory) to be sure your site isn't already listed.
3. Identify the single best category for your site.
4. Once you've selected the best category for your site, go directly
to that category on dmoz.org and then click "add URL."

More detailed instructions are available directly at:

http://dmoz.org/add.html

I performed a search on your site from the dmoz.org site, and it does
not show up there, so you should be able to add it as per the
instructions shown above. Remember that you are only permitted to
submit your site to one category, so it would be wise to choose a
specific category that best describes the content of your site.

Hope that helps...if you have any problems understanding the
information above please feel free to post a clarification and I will
respond in a timely manner :)

Cheers!

Hello and thanks for your answer.

How can I move the listing

From:
Business > Energy and Environment > Utilities > Gas and Electricity

-which is a worldwide listing not suitable for my company which only
deals in the UK.

To:
Regional > Europe > United Kingdom > Business and Economy > Industries
> Utilities

- which would be the best place for the site since it deals with both
gas and electricity suppliers, and also both domestic and business
suppliers.

A. Can you arrange this switch?

B. Is it neccessary, and/or possible to make a payment to get this
done?

Thanks for your help.

Richard

Hi again Richard,

By following the steps laid out in the original answer, what will
happen is that you will either change your category to the one you
have specified, or you will become listed in both categories (both of
which I assume are viable options).

It is not possible for me to directly influence this procedure since
the directories used in Google are actually drawn from the Netscape
Open Directory Project and are used in several other search engine
sites as well (ie. Yahoo). It is not necessary to make a payment to
make this change to your directory listing, so don't let anyone else
tell you otherwise :)

Nice to get a good answer. The remaining point is how to resolve the
question and I've posted a clarification request about this.
Thanks, Richard
