I have searched a number of options using Google's search engine
without success. I am attempting to obtain a name and any
biographical listings of former Miss New Orleans contestants, but more
specifically the winners. I am specifically looking for a former
winner who might be related to me. Her first name is Anita and
phonetically, her last name is Bathelomory. I also know that she has
a brother who's first name is David. I have even called the New
Orleans Convention and Visitors Bureau but they have no info. Do you
all have any ideas for how I can come by this information. I thank
you very much.

Do you have any idea of the approximate time period when she would
have competed? Thanks.

Unfortunately, I do not have an idea of when she might have competed.
I do know that she is an African American; therefore, this would leave
me to believe that there has to be a narrower window for when African
Americans could have been contestants.

If this isn't helpful, I have a relative that I can ask a question
later this evening or tomorrow and will advise.

I found a listing of pagent winners (Miss New Orleans, Miss Louisiana,
etc) from 1922 to the present. You can browse them but I should adsie
you that the exact name you mentioned is not among them. Please advise
if this will suffice as an answer.

I have had some correspondence with the person who runs
www.missneworleans.org and she is checking for the name Anita as well
as African American winners of the pageant. As soon as I hear back
from her, I will let you know.

Is the last name you are seeking on this list of surnames?

It is encouraging that you believe that the surname Barthelemy may be
a promising lead. I am also checking out close variations of that
name.

In the meantime, I have e-mailed a former winner of the Miss Black New
Orleans pageant to ask whether she can confirm the identity of the
person you are inquiring about, and whether she can provide any
further leads to sources within the pageant's organization.

Would you know her if you saw a photo of her?

There is a possibility that I would recognize her from a photo;
however, I don't know for sure.

I can find no one in the US listed with the surname
BATHELOMORY--please double check to insure that you have the correct
spelling.

Do an internet search engine search (www.google.com) on the term NEW
ORLEANS PUBLIC LIBRARY and write to them to ask them to assist you
with your research on this name--perhaps they have access to newspaper
file clippings that could find the information for you, and also ask
them for the name of the main black newspaper in New Orleans where
someone there could also possibly help.

Miss New Orleans Pageant has an official website at
www.missneworleans.org

SINCERELY,

Let me see if I can provide you with a bit more information. This
list without the name I thought was the correct one will not help me.

melsga --

One possible surname that approximates your phonetic spelling is
"Barthelemy." It is relatively common in Louisiana, and 22 "white
page" listings in New Orleans are returned by "Yahoo: People Search"
for that surname. St. Barthelemy is an island in the French West
Indies.

I am not going to obtain confirmation on the spelling of the name
until after January 5th; however, I have learned that she was not,
repeat not, Miss New Orleans winner, but Miss Black New Orleans
contestant and winner. She is probably no older than 40 years of age
and I would suspect that she competed somewhere around the late 70's
to early 80's. I do have confirmation on the spelling of the first
name, Anita, but nothing with the last name. I suspect that the
suggestion for the last name might be worth exploring as "Barthelemy."

I live in New Orleans, and before I saw the final comments was going
to suggest that you try the new spelling, as it IS very very common in
this city, however, it is MORE commonly spelled Bartholemy. You may
want to try that spelling as well - and I will tap some of my local
resources to try to help you find your answer!

Good luck,

-Rebekah
