Question ID: 13359
I am looking for a supplier of a 'mod chip' or 'mod kit' for a Toshiba
SD-6109C DVD player (imported from the United States to the United
Kingdom). I believe this player is also sold under the name Onkyo
SR-90. It is currently locked to Region 1, and I wish to make it
'region free'. Many suppliers claim to sell a mod-chip which will work
with all Toshiba DVD players, but one I purchased in the past (from
http://www.dvdchips.co.uk) was not compatible, so the product has to
be specifically for the SD-6109C. The supplier can be in any country,
as long as they will ship to the UK and the total price including
delivery is USD$75 or under.

Sorry, that should be Onkyo DR-90.

Hello Andywaite!

Just for clarification, you're looking for a chip for the Onkyo and NOT the Toshiba?

Dear Sir,

I found the solution for your problem and it is a free one,
check it out at the site:

http://www.tronika.no/dvdmod/Toshiba_user.doc

On the site you have the complete instruction set to make your player
manual region-free.
It looks not dificult to me.

If you want a real chip, you can order it on the site:

http://www.dvdshop.com.au/mods.html

It costs 70 dollars + 42 dollars for shipping to the UK in 4-5 days.
This is the cheapest way I found.

Keywords used for search:

"Onkyo DR-90" modifications

I hope this answer could satisfy your question.

Kind Regards,

Pytaghoras

Dear Sir,

I citate your question:
"I am looking for a supplier of a 'mod chip' or 'mod kit' for a
Toshiba
SD-6109C DVD player (imported from the United States to the United
Kingdom). I believe this player is also sold under the name Onkyo
DR-90."

I answered your question; I gave you a retail that sells Mod-chips for
the OnkyoDR-90 in the UK. (Your question suggests Toshiba SD-6109C =
Onkyo DR-90)
I suggest you make a foon-call to the specialized shop and ask what
their sollution is.

Reason this answer was rejected by andywaite-ga:
Regarding http://www.mailuk.com/upgrades/ I stated the modification
must be specifically for the SD-6109C. That site only lists a
modification for the Onkyo
DR-90 so I'm afraid that is unsuitable.

Are they located in the United Kingdom? Can they do it all for under
USD75/GBP50 ?

Techtronics offer the service but they charge GBP109 which is around
the cost of a whole new player!

Supposedly there is a sequence to make your player region-free without
a mod chip.

Update :

http://www.dvdshop.com.au/mods.html will do your player for 70 dollars
do-it-yourself. They don't list the shipping price.
