Greetings! This is a bit vague as I've only heard this story
second-hand, but I'm trying to find a place mentioned in a US TV
documentary awhile ago (Discovery, TLC, Travel Chanel).

It was about an inn/tavern/hotel in England/Ireland the is supposedly
haunted
by a young girl/woman (among others not so nice) that froze to death
with her baby in her arms in the snow just feet from the front door.
Apparently there'd been a strong storm/blizzard and she couldn't see
where she was going. I
believe it's located out in the countryside somewhere, not near any
major city.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Am planning on visiting Eire
in May of 2003 and would love to visit this place (and hopefully many
others).

advTHANXance!

Graham

Hello.

I believe that you're looking for the Kirkstone Pass Inn in Cumbria,
England.

The Kirkstone Pass Inn was featured in a recent Travel Channel
documentary about haunted hotels. Additionally, the Kirkstone Pass is
supposedly haunted by a woman who froze to death with a baby in her
arms.

See this description from the web page "Haunted Britain & Ireland,"
cached by Google:
"One story of the pass itself concerns Ruth Ray who came up from
Patterdale and was on her way to see her sick father. The snow began
to fall and when she did not return, her husband went out looking for
her. He would have died, but he came across a sheepdog which led him
to its master who had some kind of dwelling nearby. In the morning the
man and the shepherd set off to look for Ruth Ray. When they found her
she was dead, but she had wrapped the child in her shawl and by some
miracle it lived still."

The Kirkstone Pass Inn was featured in "Haunted Hotels #3" which aired
on Discovery's Travel Channel in October 2001 and again in October
2002.

information about England's Lake District, visit the web page, "Lake

search strategy: "haunted hotels", england, "travel channel"

I hope this helps.
