Hi jillandjake,

I did a search and discovered many schools designated as "Schools of
Excellence" by various organizations, but I did not find any reference
to an accreditation organization by that name. Therefore, I am not
sure this information is exactly on target, so I am posting it as a
comment, rather than aanswer.

The largest and most reputable accreditation organization for early
childhood education programs is the National Association for the
Education of Young Children (NAEYC). You can learn about its
accreditation standards, mission, etc. at its Web site:
http://www.naeyc.org/about/default.asp. It also has a search tool to
help you locate accredited programs in your area. A search in Los
Angeles reveals 27 accredited programs. If you put in your ZIP code,
you can probably narrow this list further. The list does not provide
much detail about the programs, but does include names, addresses and
phone numbers.

There is also an organization that accredits "family child care"
programs. These are in-home type caregivers, rather than traditional
preschools. The organiztion, called National Association for Family
Child Care (NAFCC), promotes high standards of care and
professionalism through its accreditation program. Learn more at :
http://www.nafcc.org/about.html. It also has a search tool at
http://www.nafcc.org/accred/search.html.

I hope this helps. If you are satisfied that this answers your
question, I will post it as an answer.

Cheers,

Jill and Jake,
NAEYC and NAFCC are both fantastic resources, as helpful1 pointed out.
One more place to look is at CCRC in the valley
(http://www.ccrcla.org/). Give them a call during business hours
(818-256-1020) and ask to talk to the R&R (Resource and Referral)
supervisor (a job title held by my mother for several years). They'll
help you find the best of the best if you ask.

Hope that helps.

Great thank you for all the info. I am looking for this particular
nursery school that is located in the West Vally and has been featured
on TV and boast about their great early child development programs for
tots. Would either one of you remembered such a show or particular
school featured?
