Dear grandefromage, M.O.M's Ball (acronyme for Mystic Orphans and Misfits), is a party by invite only and only those with costumes and ticket are admitted: "The legendary Mom's Ball, like the majority of celebrations organized by Carnival Krewes, is rightfully veiled in purple, green and gold secrecy. M.O.M.s' Most Exalted Highness is King Quasimodo the Megamillionth and Queen Inertia the Inumuerable. Admittance is by invitation only, costumes de rigueur." and "The M.O.M.s Ball is a private ball held on the Saturday before Mardi Gras. You must be a member or have an invitation from a member, as well as being in costume, to attend." That means, that you either have to be a member of the Krewe of M.O.M's, or to contact one in time, in order to achieve such an invite. M.O.M's regular band, the Radiators, answered this question several time in their site. They would provide an invitation if they still have one (see their site http://www.radiators.org), for which they claim January is very late (but you could always try to contact a member of the Krewe at http://www.radiators.org/listserver.html as a Plan B). "Question to the Rads: I would do anything to get tickets to this years Mom's Ball. Can you give any advice on how I might be able to get some? Last year I had lierally had the best time of my life and I would do anything to go back. Thanks for any help. Answer: Unfortunately, due to the lateness of your request, all we can suggest is that you try throwing yourself on the mercy of the list-server for next year's ball. The band gets a set number of invitations which are usually all spoken for by early January. We realize that because of our long association with M.O.M.s, people assume we have more influence than is the case. M.O.M.s is a private organization and the best way to score an invitation is to connect with a member. The list- server is perhaps the easiest way if you don't already know someone in the Krewe. Good luck." Question to the Rads: hey ya'll. thanks so much for such a great time all these years. i've lived in new orleans my whole life and have been to see you whenever possible since before i was in high school. every year at mardi gras i hear about the bomb time everybody has at mom's, but have never been able to experience it myself. is there any posible way for me to get tickets fo this year's? please help, thanks. Answer: We get a lot of requests for help finding tickets to the M.O.M.s Ball each year. The invitations the band gets are usually all spoken for by January. Our advice to anyone interested in attending the M.O.M.s Ball would be to start early.Invtations/tickets for this event go very fast and very early. If you know someone in the organization try putting in a request for one of their invitations. If you don't know someone you can try pleading your case on the list-server. Someone with the odd, unclaimed invitation might pass it on to you. The last option would be to join M.O.M.s.Good luck." (Source: http://www.radiators.org/qna1to6-99.html). Other people who might have invites were found, with a lot of effort, in other sites. This woman claims to be a member of MOMs and to have invitations: http://groups.google.de/groups?selm=eg5%23q8ec%24GA.308%40cpmsnbbsa03&oe=UTF-8&output=gplain and this site - www.brflamingo.org/2002_lineup.htm - suggests that a woman named Judy Jumonville is a member To summarize, to get tickets you have to contact, as soon as possible, people who are members of M.O.M's Krewe. You could do it either by contacting the radiators at their site, or other members at the Radiators' Website (or, if you know a member in any other way, to contact them). Frankly, I think that efforts now would assist you to get tickets for next year, and not for this February, but I wish you success and luck, and a great party. My search strategy included a search for "MOM's Ball" in various variations, and then a search for "invitations" within these results, both in Google Web Research and in Google Groups Research. I think that answered your question. Please contact me if you need any clarifications on this answer. I'd be pleased to provide clarifications before you rate the answer. |

The Mardi Gras Digest Website states: Admission to the traditional balls held is by invitation only. Most invitations are for members only and non-transferable. There are other balls that are held by certain groups, however, that you can get an invitation too by just simply asking. Zulu Social aid and Pleasure Club, holds its ball every year, tickets are $135.00 each and includes all food, refreshments, and entertainment. If you wish to attend this or another ball, please forward your name, address and phone number to us here at Mardi Gras Digest.Com and we're give you a call. You will be able very soon to get invitations right here on-line. http://www.mardigrasdigest.com/html/Mardi_Gras_FAQ.htm |
