Hi,

I believe you are talking about this : memantine

If this isn't the one then let me know using the Clarification option
and I'll find other new drugs which fit your description.

Many thanks for quick response. I am not sure if the medication I have
in mind is the same as the one you found for me. The name you found
does not look familiar, & I only read about it earlier this year, or
in 2001 at the latest, NOT all the way back in 2000. (The name I
vaguely remember might be a "brand" name, rather than its medical or
chemical name.) Also, it is NOT made by a big-name drug company like
Merz, or I should have rememebered it. I am quite sure that the
medicine is made by a company in one of the Scandinavian countries &
it was approved for use in the United Kingdom recently (sometime this
year?). A clarification from you will be much appreciated. Thank you
so much.

By the way, the second link [the Yahoo one] you gave me has expired by
the time I went to it & so I was unable to read the content of the
second link.

Hi again,

Combination Drug Regimens Hold Great Promise for Alzheimer's Treatment
alzheimersupport.com

The only medications currently approved by the U.S. Food and Drug
Administration (FDA) for people with mild or moderate Alzheimer's
disease are in the class called cholinesterase inhibitors such as
Reminyl, Exelon, and Aricept. Another medication called, Memantine is
a different type of drug approved for treating Alzheimer's disease in
Europe but still under FDA review. An observational study presented at
the Stockholm conference found that memantine and a cholinesterase
inhibitor could be administered together safely.

That's the only "true?" drug I'm finding which fits your description.
I did have a look at this page, which seems to follow just about any
shred of light suggested as a treatment, and you may find what you are
looking for there.

I hope this helps you and one of those (at least one of two of those)
is what you are looking for.

And I hope it has nothing to do with this :

Yes, I can now confirm that memantine, the answer to my question given
by the researcher, is the correct drug name. I only knew this drug by
its brand name, EBIXA, & I wanted to have more information on EBIXA.
It took me further research to verify that memantine is the actual
drug name for EBIXA, & only then could I be sure that the web-links
given to me by the researcher do give me information on EBIXA.
