I am looking for a good, high-volume, low-cost address verification
service. I have come across knowx.com (expensive) and whitepages.com
(incomplete) but am sure that there is something better. I am looking
to do c. 1000 address verifications per month and would like to pay c.
$0.20 per verification.

QWould these be 1000 addresses at a time, in a batch file, or 1000
separate transactions?

Are you looking to verify that the address is there and real or that a
person lives there of a certain name?

Two clarifications:

1/ we need to do this realtime, address by address so NOT batch

2/ we want a positive ID that the person lives at a particular address
- this is for verifying online credit card transactions.

This may sound a bit odd, but ... why aren't you using a service like
authroize.net ? or something similar? They do that for you. Doing it
yourself with a service is going to be very expensive.

we don't want to use an online authorisation solution for a number of
reasons (including cost, operational complexity, taking unnecessary
authorisations etc.). Address checking is only one of the fraud
checks we use and I'm very happy to pay $0.20 for 10% of orders.
