4 year schools are most important to me. To fully answer this question
I do need a list of the schools that do require laptops of incoming
freshman.

I don't know if such a list exists as with the sheer number of 4 year
universities in the US, those requiring laptops of incoming freshman
is probably a very dynamic number. I have found a listing of over 100
colleges that describes their technology iniatives as well as their
requirments. I have also located some references to schools with
laptop requirements. If this information will suffice, please let me
know.

thanks anyway tar_heel, but I really do need a list. I do not believe
that it is that many schools. In fact I think it is fewer than 50, but
I can not confirm it. Perhaps if we limit the search to major
universities.

matwaan,
The list I have has over 120 Universities requiring laptops. I have
also come across over 120 law schools requiring laptops as well. Let
me look at the list and and determine the major universities and see
what the number is.

As a side note, I found the following from Duke Magazine,
http://www.dukemagazine.duke.edu/dukemag/issues/050602/thinking-laptop.html,
"There are probably over a hundred universities and colleges across
the U.S. that have laptop requirements, and when we look at that, we
say, Oh, gosh, is Duke falling behind? But then, when we look at the
schools we aspire to be our peers--Harvard, Yale, Princeton, and
Stanford--few of those, if any, have requirements for laptops for
undergrads."
I have found a list, including the University of North Carolina at
Chapel Hill and Wake Forest University that require laptops for
incoming freshmen. Again, I am not sure how complete the list is, so
I am hesitant to post it. Also, are you looking for schools that
issue computers to freshmen and either add it into their fees or
simply those that require freshmen to have laptops upon arrival?

tar_heel,
The two lists you spoke of may certainly be what I have been searching
for!
1. the list of 120 universities
2. the list of 120 lawschools
I will add $10
-If you can provide me with a list of schools that provide laptops as
part of tuition
I will add $20 dollars if you can get me student population numbers
for each school.
The total package is worth $50 to me.
(BTW. I will need citations on this material so I can track it down
myelf if need be and/or links to electronic documents.)
Much Thanks!

The list I have lists schools (US and Canada and schools most would
not consider "major" universities) that have some type of initiave for
laptops, not only for incoming freshmen, but it also lists grad
schools, etc. It does have those that require them for freshman, so I
will cull those out and see what the number is. I found another list
from 2000 that had about 20 schools that you would consider majot
(UNC, Wake Forest, Florida, etc) that have freshman requirements. I
will combined the two and see what I come up with. The law school
list is a listing of about 100 or so schools and there are roughly 20
that require laptops, however, the survey was done in 1997, so I am
not sure how helpful that list will be, but will provide it once I get
a more definitive answer on the freshman requirements
I apologize for the confusion and I have been researching for awhile
and hopefully will have a more definitive answer for you along with,
hopefully, your other requests as well.
