What mutual fund companies are headquartered in Southern California (from San Diego to Los Angeles County)? (Examples are Nicholas Applegate (San Diego) and Pacific Life (Newport Beach).) I need a fairly comprehensive list, along with addresses and phone numbers. |

Hi sdchap-ga! Well, I did some research and found a comprehensive list of mutual funds, and manually checked their sites for headquarters, so this should do it :P Here you go, a pretty extensive list of mutual funds in Southern California: American Funds: (One of two headquarters): P.O. Related links: Main list of Mutual fund companies I researched: http://www.investorlinks.com/directory/mfcomp.html Search terms used: "Directory of Mutual fund companies", then manually searched all sites from above list Good luck with your future searches! jzig-ga |

Try looking through the directory web sites, which break the web down into smaller categories. Specifically, try the Yahoo! site listings under California. This link is for Financial Services in Los Angeles. http://dir.yahoo.com/Regional/U_S__States/California/Cities/Los_Angeles/Business_and_Shopping/Business_to_Business/Financial_Services/Investment_Services/Brokerages/ There are four sites under this link -- you'll still have to do some digging to get contact information, and then you'd have to search other cities in California. I realize this is not ideal! Proprietary services like Hoovers offer the ability to create narrow searches and they provide detailed information about the companies in the results set. Head over to Hoovers (http://www.hoovers.com) and see what you could get with a subscription. For starters, you can do a customized search by zip code and SIC code (try 6211 = "mutual fund agents"). They search over 12,000 public US companies and 9,000 private US companies. From there, you can download financial information or pdf profiles. I don't know what the subscription cost is for an individual. Your company may have a subscription, or you may be able to access Hoovers or another database at your public library. Good luck! |

I've done a very limited browse of some mutual fund sites and have been unable to categorise issuers by headquarter address. That's not to say that this cannot be done, but it may be overly time-consuming and innaccurate. One option might be to contact the SEC's Division of Investment Management on (202) 942-0659 or e-mail IMOCC@sec.gov. The SEC may be able to provide that information, given their jurisdiction over the registration of mutual funds and the administration of databases in respect thereof. Alternatively, try the SEC's offices in California: Pacific Regional Office Valerie Caproni, Regional Director 5670 Wilshire Boulevard, 11th Floor Los Angeles, CA 90036-3648 (323) 965-3998 e-mail: losangeles@sec.gov San Francisco District Office Helane Morrison, District Administrator 44 Montgomery Street, Suite 1100 San Francisco, CA 94104 (415) 705-2500 e-mail: sanfrancisco@sec.gov The foregoing information is readily available from the SEC's website at www.sec.gov. I realise this does not fully answer your question but it may provide a useful starting point for your search. |
