I'm looking for a photo of the band, St John and the Cardinals that
played in Atlanta, GA in the mid 1960's. Band leader and drummer was
Dennis St John who later became Neil Diamond's drummer. Band
backed-up John Lee Hooker, The New Beats, and The Mighty Hannibal.
The band also played for Georgia Tech fraternity parties and
frequently at the "Bakini-a-go-go" in Atlanta. Recorded "Rampage" on
Shurfine Records and radio station jingles for WQXI radio in Atlanta.
Band included a drummer, trumpet, tenor sax, and three guitars.

Hi Luther1,

I did a thorough search on this using numerous search strings but it
seems that the photo you are looking for is not posted on the
Internet. I did, however, come across a certain name in a forum who is
looking for the same photos as you are (posted June 16, 2002). Perhaps
it's also you. :-)

Anyway, I'm sorry I wasn't able to find it. I hope another researcher
can locate it for you. Goodluck on the search.

Best regards,
Feilong

Feilong, thanks for trying. Is there any other info that I could post
to help you find it?

If you have a particular photo of the band in mind, you could tell us
the complete descriptions as far as you can remember, i.e. where the
picture was taken, the attire of the band, name of the event -- simply
put, anything and everything will be of great help in our search.
Thank you very much.

Don't know much more info about details that may help. The band
played at Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity parties at Ga Tech. The
recordings and back-up sessions were done in Atlanta. Band members
wore purple jackets and long hair wigs. Music played was mostly R&B.

My new search using keywords from your latest clarification yielded
nothing. Once again I came across the inquiry of Lou Rupnik (is that
you?) regarding the band. Perhaps it would be a good idea if you visit
GA Tech's library so that you can inquire and search their archives. I
placed the info here for your convenience:

I'm really sorry that the photo you are looking for is not readily
available in the web. You may be able to find the photo (but it's a
long shot) from someone who attended that 1960's party. You could do
this by searching GA Tech's Tau Kappa Epsilon Member Database
http://betapitke.org/cgi-bin/dbman/db.pl?db=default&uid=default&view_search=1
and contacting members one by one, but this will surely test your
patience. Sort it by "Graduation Year", and enter the year the band
played in the "Graduation Year" dialogue box. The people who graduated
in the year/s covered by your search are the most likely to have seen
the band played and taken pictures of them. Goodluck on your search.

http://www.bear-family.de/php/schnellschuss.php?suche=SURF
has an LP "Vol.2, Sleazy Surf" that has a recording of Rampage by St
John and The Cardinals.

http://www.spies.com/~reverb/reviews/comp/dogs3977.html
also has the song as an album cut. Also featuring the Dischords, who
played at local dances in my area - I didn't know they had anything on
an "official" record. Cool!

Re: Favorite Finds of 2000 - Lists the 45 as a top pick. I assume this
mean that there is a copy of the 45 available - probably featuring the
band. The email of the poster is available on the message, so
contacting him should be pretty simple.

Hope this helps a bit.

I have contacted a member of the band -- now a professor -- to see if
he might have a photo or other information. I'll let you know if I
receive a reply.
