A Native American Artist named Helen Hardin once produced a lithograph
(I think) entitled Mimbres Wolf. Am I right. Where could I find and
purchase it?

Hello JPM,

There appear to be three galleries very familiar with her work: Silver
Sun, Blue Rain and Adobe Gallery. I have become fond of her work while
performing this search for you and thank you for an introduction to
her.

I have contacted all three and none of the owners, all familiar with
her work have ever heard of "Mimbres Wolf", though there seem to be
many others such as Mimbres Turtle, Mimbres Lizard, etc.

Silver Sun appears to be the gallery that sells her works from her
estate. The curator was not in today, but I have left word for him to
contact me tomorrow. He will probably be the definitive source of
information and can confirm or deny the existance of this title. I
will speak with him tomorrow and post the results of that
conversation.

Hello jpm,

I spoke to the curator at Silver Sun this morning who received the
collection from Helen Hardin's estate in 1991.

She never did any lithographs, but did copper plate etchings, which
they explain to me is very similar. There were 23 of these of which
they received 22 - the bear was all sold out at that time. However,
there were no wolves not coyotes in this part of the collection.

She thinks you might have seen an acrylic original, though even in
that case there was no wolf. It is possible there was an original
coyote, but the acrylic originals only consisted of 4 or 5 pieces and
they are all now in private collections.

So, I'm afraid our best expert on her art can not lead us to a Mimbres
Wolf.

I'm posting this as a Clarification rather than an answer since it
appears the art you desire does not exist, unfortunately, and I don't
believe any further research will uncover a Mimbres Wolf for you.

Best regards,

Thanks to clouseau and googlenut. My memory is so clear but of course
not necessarily accurate. I was looking through a copy of American
Indian Art and saw Hardin's "Mimbres Wolf". It may have been an
acrylic original. Your work and my failed attempts make me doubt that
I was right. I also remember looking for it in my back issues of AIA
and failing. I'll keep looking.

Hello jpm-ga,

You may be right, but I haven't been able to find it yet. Perhaps one
of the other researchers will.

In case you are interested, I did find "Mimbres Lizard" (Silver Sun,
Santa Fe, http://www.silversun-sf.com/hardin/etch/etch.htm) and
"Mimbres Painted Turtles" (Blue Rain Gallery,
http://www.blueraingallery.com/SearchScript.php?Status=&Title=&Artist=33&NumberPerPage=25).

Good Luck
