Question ID: 134858
I am remodeling my kitchen.
I had a new granite sink top installed, and had 4 holes cut into the
granite.
All 4 holes are the same, and they are 1 & ½ inches in diameter.
In hole number 1, the hot and cold water faucet (brushed stainless
steel) fits very well.
In hole number 2, the hand soap dispenser (brushed stainless steel)
fits very well.
In hole number 3, the garbage disposal air switch (brushed stainless
steel) fits very well.

The following is my problem, and my question:
Hole number 4, is for the dishwashers air gap.
All of the air gaps I have found, have a 1 & 15/16 inch shaft, and the
shaft is too large for the 1 & ½ inch hole.

I need to find a 1 & ½ inch (or less) air gap shaft, with a brushed
stainless steel cover.

Or maybe, I need to have the granite hole drilled larger.

Hello clicker5,

Thanks for a very interesting question.

I searched using many search engines on the web for [dishwasher air
gap] and found many models, however none listed their diameter. When I
woke this morning, I decided to make a few calls.

Most plumbing supply houses told me that air gaps were all a standard
size. That is, until I called The Plumbery in Sacramento, California -
916-369-2284.

They carry products by Brasstech and measured a display model at 1 1/2
inches!

Searching the web for Brasstech, I located their website:

http://www.brasstech.com/

(949) 417-5207 / FAX (949) 417-5208
2001 E. Carnegie Ave. Santa Ana, CA. 92705

I called, just to be sure and spoke with customer service. I was told
their air gaps are designed for a 1 1/4" hole.

You can locate a local distributor from their web page, or by calling
their customer service department.

I trust my research will help you locate just the right solution for
you. If a link above should fail to work or my research require
further explanation, please do post a Request for Clarification.

Hello clouseau:
I sure want to thank you for the quick and perfect answer to my
question.
I looked at the Brasstech web site, and found the air gaps in their
product line.
I looked at their distributors, and located one about 3 miles from my
home.
I called the distributor, and yes, they have a brushed stainless steel
air gap, that will fit into my 1 & ½ inch sink top granite hole.
Thanks again,
clicker5
