I hope someone can help me with this I am just about to pull my hair
out.

Okay, 2 days ago I registered and signed up to the web hosting service
at www.hostsave.com, I also requested a domain name
www.mplctraining.info, everything was fine until they told me they
could provide mysql support.

So I then advised them to close the account and I would transfer the
domain elsewhere, this is after they ahd assured me they did support
mysql, however as they dealt with the domain registration I asked them
to change the DNS settings to point to my new provider,
www.phpwebhosting.com.

They replied with the following e-mail:

Dear Lee Wisener:

Thank you for contacting Hostsave Technical Support.

You may change your Domain Name Server (DNS) information with your
Registrar, Network Solutions
(https://www.netsol.com/en_US/manage-it/index.jhtml). You will need
the Account Number/Username and Password issued when you registered
the domain name. (We do not have access to this information, as the
domain name stays under your ownership.)

If you have misplaced your Account Number/Username and/or Password,
follow this link: https://www.netsol.com/en_US/manage-it/forget-login.jhtml.

Have a nice day.

This fine, but I never registered the domain name as quoted in their
e-mail above ("You will need the Account Number/Username and Password
issued when you registered the domain name.").

I then duly went to the link they supplied and after clicking
everywhere I found a link at the site which had my e-mail address
(lee@wisener.net), it said it would send my account number/username to
my e-mail.

I the got the e-mail as follows, I have removed the username for
security:

Dear Customer,

We've recently received a request to recover the Account
Number/Login(s) associated with this e-mail address. Below you will
find that information. Please store it in a secure location for
future reference.

Account Number/Login: **************************************

If you would like to reset the password for this Account Number/Login,
please go to http://www.netsol.com/en_US/manage-it/forget-login.jhtml
and enter the Account Number/Login in the box provided.

Best Regards,

Okay fine, so I went back to try and now recover my password, it was
only willing to send my password if I could answer the security
question, i.e, what was your first school etc. I tried the obvious
ones but failed, of course during the www.hostsave.com sign up process
I was never asked any of this information, and just to make sure I
went back through the sign up process forms and sure enough, no
questions like that asked.

www.hostsave.com as still adamant they cant help as they dont have the
username or password.

I then contacted verisign who gave me the username and asked them to
help. I was amazed at the answer. see Below:

Dear Lee Wisener,

Thank you for contacting Network Solutions.

With regard to your inquiry, we regret that we are unable to assist
you as the domain name you asked about was not or is not currently
registered through Network Solutions, Inc. Therefore, it doesn't have
a record in our WHOIS database and cannot be modified through our
services. Our WHOIS database only contains records for domain names
registered by us.

********************************************************************
To find out which registrar holds the record for the Web Address you
are looking for, go to www.verisign-grs.com Enter the domain name in
the text box and click Submit Query. The results page will tell you
which registrar holds your domain name record.
********************************************************************

---------------------------------------

So if they dont recognise the domain name why were they able to send
me an e-mail with my username?????

I am really confused and just want to transfer my domain elsewhere, it
should be a 2 minute job.

Please help anyone, tell me how to resolve this.

This is a common problem with free or budget domain sites. You can go
to Register.com and give them a call, don't use the website, talk to
someone there, and see if they can transfer your account over to them.
It will cost you more but you won't have this problem in the future.

I would have posted this as an answer but really it's all bad news, so
I'll keep it as a comment for the time, and hope that someone else can
suggest something less painful. I personally have lost 2 domain names
in similar situations, and have learned my lesson. I always use the
better registers for my domain names and I never let an ISP set one up
for me. I get them and then set them up to work with the ISP. That
way, when I want to leave, I just leave.

Good luck,

www.mplctraining.info is currently not registered, or does not exist
in the registrar. It may still be in processing, if so your
username/password will not be available anyway. Try re-registering
under a different registration company.
