My operating sys. is win XP Pro and I am having a problem connecting
to the internet thru a hyperlink. I subscribe to a number of e-mail
services like "morning star, about .com and etc;" whenever there is a
hyperlink the only way that I can log on to the web site is to copy
the link and paste it to my web browser address. On occasion a window
pops up and says Windows cannot find opera exe. :this program is
needed to open type url: hyper text transfer protocol. When i use
explorer to try and find the opera exe. it tells me that search is
complete and there are no results to display.

Hi,

Opera is another browser which was probably installed on your system,
and has since been removed.

Open My Compter, go to Tools->Folder Options. Click on the tab that
says "File Types" Find the file type for HTML and HTM. Highlight and
click the Change button. Choose Internet Explorer and then click OK.
Do this with both, restart the computer just to be sure and try your
hyperlink again.

Thanks,

I did as you suggested but I still can't open a hyperlink. I
re-checked the Folder Options and both HTM and HTML use Internet
Explorer to open them. What do I do next ?

Hi, again,

On the menu bar, choose Tools.
From the pull down menu select "Internet Options ..."

Choose the tab labeled "Programs".

At the bottom of that you'll see a check box for "Internet Explorer
should check to see whether it is the primary browser." Check that
box.

Close everything and restart your machine.

After your computer restarts, open Internet Explorer again. A window
should come up asking you whether you want to make IE your primary
browser. Check YES, and all the rest, to affirm this. Close I.E.

Ooppss!! Those instructions are for your Intener Explorer, not your
mail program. Close your mail program, and open IE, then follow those
instructions. Thanks,

I did as you said the I.E block as my default browser was already
checked. I un checked it and re-checked it and continued. After
restarting my computer the window asking for my default browser never
came up. When I went to Outlook Express everything is working normally
and I can connect thru a hyperlink.
What ever was wrong is now fixed and I'd like to thank you for all of
your help.
