In a couple of weeks I will be in the market to buy a DVD player. I
just what to see a good movie from time to time. I do not need all the
"whistles and bells", besides I don't know what they are for anyway.

What are a couple of fair price, good DVD players that will last a
couple of years? What are a couple I should avoid buying?

Can you tell us what kind of television you have (Brand, size, etc.)
and whether or not it has component inputs (high quality connections
that separate colors and brightness into separate cables).

If you TV is smaller than 21", doesn't have component inputs, and you
don't plan on getting a new TV in the next couple years, you will do
very well with a cheap DVD player. Whatever difference a more
expensive model would offer would probably not be noticed on a lower
end TV.

Either way, knowing this information may allow a researcher to list
additional DVD players to what Pinkfreud has linked to below.

Hello Pendleton,

Since you have an old TV, you need to check if it has separate Audio &
Video connections, apart from the one you mention (where the antenna
connects too). Since this TV may not have advanced video input
connectivity, the choice of a DVD player is pretty much open. Please
check the back of the TV and list out whatever connections you see.

warm regards

You may want to examine Epinion's list of DVD players under $175 (I've
sorted it by price, with the cheapest units first.) You can get more
detailed info on each unit, and many offer consumers' reviews, both
pro and con:

My personal recommendation: the Apex AD-1500. It is cheap, but offers
good value. Here's more on this player:

I have been very happy with my Apex. It has performed flawlessly, with
heavy use, and I would buy another if I needed an additional DVD
player.

If you're interested in buying one online, I'd be glad to help you
find a good price.

Hi, John P. Here. My t-v is a Sylvania and is about 10 years old.
It just has that cable from my VCR to the T-V (where the antenna also
can
connect). We are happy with it, the few videos we see. We may get a
new one, but nothing in the plans, much less in the budget.

It is a 19incher.
