Question ID: 13569
I'm from the Mac domain and have ventured into the Nokia 9210/9290
Communicator domain and realized there's no support for the Mac.

I'm seeking to synchronize and connect my Nokia 9210 Communicator,
which is the European version of the 9290 US version of the same
device, to the Mac world and I'm assuming there are others whom may
have had the same need and may have done some work on their own to
connect the device to the Mac.

If so, I have failed to locate the results, in terms of software, of
their attempts and would like to be assisted into that direction.

An answer that qualifies would lead to a software with synchronization
capabilities for the Contacts database on the Nokia with an
applications such as Outlook on the Mac.

Thanks for your question!

So far no luck, but I was wondering if you could tell me which version
of MacOS you are running?

Another clarification I am in need of is whether or not your device
can currently connect to the Internet on its own.

Thanks!

Hello Nishka,

The Mac OS version is 9.2.1 and X 10.1.4.

The unit is Internet enabled.

The key needs as expressed are Contacts, Calendar and Notes
syncronization. A subset of that or workarounds are ok as well as
Nokia supported the Mac when it came out with the 9110x Communicator
so it was assumed they would support it even more with the newer unit,
though no luck. :-)

Thank you for the effort.

Anything yet? :-)

Unfortunately nothing yet :(.

I haven't given up yet, but it's not looking good. There doesn't seem
to be much in even alternative means of syncronization.

The only solution thus far would be to run VirtualPC, but that of
course would not make things easy (or cheap for that matter).

Hello Nishka,

Glad you're still at it, takes a bit of digging I'm sure and you're
gonna give it the chance it deserves. :-)

I'll move to development of the application if I can't locate one.

I have exhausted just about every avenue I have available. It seems
those Mac owners who have a 9190 have either purchased VirtualPC, or
have thrown their hands up in the air waiting :).

So it seems as though there is a market for a custom sync app. I do
suggest you look into 'SyncML' which is the sync standard the nokia
phones use. SyncML is used by Starfish and other providers of
syncronization software (none of which offer Mac support :( ).

Hello Nishka,

Sounds like it's time to get something done for them Mac users out
there. :-)

Thank you very much for the effort, we'll make up for it in another
question I guess. ;-)

I spent 30 minutes in vain trying to find an answer for you.

Did you try the MacSuite with this phone?

It is interesting ot note that one could download the SDK and possibly
write a java app to connect to a mac os/x

Hello mplungjan,

The 91xx was supported on the Mac, though the newer phone isn't, as
you've discovered from the link you've included in your comment that
it's for the old phone.

In terms of development, I will go that route and scope an application
to be developed for the Mac to gain access to the data in 'some'
format to allow basics to be covered.
