Hello Badplanet:
It took longer to find the manufacturer of the mailing packages for
Priority Mail than it did the boxes on the street corner, etc., where
one can (or could, as the case may be) drop the Priority Mail in.
Using search terms such as
USPS contracts
USPS packaging
manufacturer: USPS packaging, etc., did not turn up the answer.
Close examination of the USPS Priority Mail boxes didn't either.
Finally, in my last desperate effort to find thi sanswer, I used the
search term "USPS Purchasing Contract Awards". B-I-N-G-O!
This led to a line item list in .pdf format offered by the lawfirm of
Wickwire Gavin, P.C., a Virginia lawfirm which assists vendors and
manufacturers in contracting with the USPS. The line items are on
Wickwire Gavin's Website at:
http://www.wickwire.com/practice/postal/FY01_HQ_Purchasing.pdf
See Line 18 ... Weyerhaeuser ... $7+ million.
See Line 53 ... Orange County Container (for CA) ... $3+ million.
Weyerhaeuser's website at http://www.weyerhaeuser.com/ reflects its
environmental concerns, and they do not advertise their major
customers.
Nonetheless, you can see a photo of their packaging very similar to
the USPS boxes on the Weyerhaeuser site at:
http://www.weyerhaeuser.com/ourproducts/pulppaperpckging/containerboard/productsandservices/
Orange County Container's website doesn't mention their major
customers, either. Their site is at:
http://www.orangecountycontainer.com/
and by clicking on "packaging solutions", you will no doubt see some
packages you recognize; however, the USPS Priority Mail box is not
among them.
I'm glad I could find the answer to your question,
