Are you looking for information about relatives in the past or
relatives who are currently living? If you are looking for past
relatives, do you want to know about ancestors of Edward Ingman,
persons of Edward Ingman's generation, persons of Thomas Ingman's
generation, or some combination of these?

Google Answers discourages questions that "request private information
about individuals", so my sense is that a Researcher for Google
Answers may not help to find living relatives, but rather only past
relatives.

"What questions can I ask?"
Google Answers
http://answers.google.com/answers/faq.html#whatquestions

I have found references to a number of persons named Edward Ingman who
were born in England or Wales. In order to determine which Edward
Ingman is correct, it would help if you could provide any additional
genealogical information you know about Edward Ingman or Thomas
Ingman.

For example: How old was Thomas Ingman when he died? Do you know his
birthdate and his birthplace? Did he have older or younger siblings?
About how old was Edward Ingman when Thomas was born? Do you have any
idea about Edward's birthdate or birthplace, or where he lived? Did
he have any older or younger siblings? What was Edward's wife's
(Thomas's mother's) maiden name, and where and when was she born?

The more information you can provide, the more likely that the correct
Edward Ingman, and hopefully other past relatives of Sylvia Ingman,
can be found.

Hi sally1234,

There are many Durhams. I can think of three off the top of my head -
England, US, and Canada. Can you let us know where you are located.
Thanks.

I have found the name, birth place, and birth year for Edward Ingman's
father. Based on that information, and the prevalence of persons with
the name "Edward Ingman", "Thomas Ingman", and names of persons
related to them, I have a good sense of where the Ingman family comes
from (at least back to the mid 1700s), although I'm not sure of the
name of Edward Ingman's grandfather. I also have a good sense as to a
few places which should have more information on the Ingman family.
Would this be sufficient for an answer?

can. Sorry about the emails. I am new to this system, and find it
difficult sometimes.

Hello sally1234,

Here is the information on your grandfather, Edward Ingman, recorded
for the 1881 British Census.

"Edward Ingman"
FamilySearch
http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/Census/individual_record.asp?indi_code=1881BR%5F3824973%5F3

As you can see, his father was another Thomas Ingman. If you click on
the link, you will find information on that Thomas Ingman from the
1881 British Census.

"Thomas Ingman"
FamilySearch
http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/Census/individual_record.asp?INDI_CODE=1881BR_3824973_0

Unfortunately, this record does not include the name of the elder
Thomas Ingman's father. However, I have a few educated guesses as to
the identity of his father.

The guesses are based on the fact that the name Ingman is very common
in the area where the elder Thomas Ingman was born, Flintshire, and
relatively uncommon elsewhere. This fact suggests that the Ingman
family is from that area. If you search on FamilySearch, you will
find eight people named Thomas Ingman (going back to a marriage in
1755) and ten people named Edward Ingman (going back to a birth in
1817) in Flintshire. Here is the search screen for FamilySearch,
where you can try looking for these names. (I recommend clicking on
“Use exact spelling”, so that you obtain results only for persons
named Ingman.)

"Search for Ancestors -- All Resources"
FamilySearch
http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp

Other male names that appear in the families of these Thomas's and
Edwards are George, Robert, and John -- and likewise, there were
several Ingmans with each of these names in Flintshire. Indeed, there
were at least one George, two Roberts, and one John who were born in
Flintshire from 1809-1815 (plus a Robert born in Denbighshire in 1810
who later moved to Flintshire), all of whom would have been the right
age to have been the father of the elder Thomas Ingman.

"George Ingman"
http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/Census/individual_record.asp?indi_code=1881BR%5F5734008%5F0

"Robert Ingman"
http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/Census/individual_record.asp?indi_code=1881BR%5F5734028%5F0

"Robert Ingman"
http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/Census/individual_record.asp?indi_code=1881BR%5F3645839%5F0

"Robert Ingman"
http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/Census/individual_record.asp?indi_code=1881BR%5F5763627%5F0

"John Ingman"
http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/Census/individual_record.asp?indi_code=1881BR%5F3646164%5F0

There may have been others with those names, as well as with the names
Thomas or Edward, who were the right age in 1837 but who passed away
before information on them could be recorded for the 1881 British
Census.

If you would like further information on these records, you can
contact or visit a Family History Center in your area.

You may be interested to note that at least two of the churches in
Flintshire (including one in Mold, the birthplace of the elder Thomas
Ingman) contain inscriptions that include the name Ingman; one says
George Ingman, and one says "R Ingman", presumably Robert.

Thank you for your help. It is hard to know exactly who is related
with so little information. If you have any more suggestions, where
to go from here I would be grateful.
