Here are several authors whose last names began with "A" through "D"
who committed suicide: Ryunosuke Akutagawa (Japanese writer); Jean
Améry (Austrian writer); Richard Brautigan (American writer); Paul
Celan (Romanian/French poet); Hart Crane (American poet); and Giles
Deleuze (French philosopher). You could also include at least two
songwriters in this list: Kurt Cobain and Nick Drake.

Most of these writers are listed in a Google category on suicides:

"Society > Death > Suicide > Incidents"
Google Directory
http://directory.google.com/Top/Society/Death/Suicide/Incidents/

The suicides of Amery and Celan are mentioned on several pages, such
as:

"'...the deep sleep of forgetfulness': Reflecting on disremembering",
by Professor Ernst Hunter (Presentation to the Third World Conference
for the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies,
Melbourne, March 17, 2000)
Institute of Australasian Psychiatrists Inc.

I hope that this information is helpful.

unfortunately, none of these are on the list of 50 authors I was
given. Do you know any more?

It would have been helpful if you had posted the list of 50 authors in
your question; there was no way I could have known that you were
looking for specific authors. (I see that you have posted a number of
other questions; if you have specific lists for those questions, I
would suggest that you post the lists in clarifications to your
questions.)

Please note that I have done more work on this question than the
typical $2 question, and that researching all of the 50 authors on the
list would go beyond the scope of a typical $2 question.

But since this was your first question on Google Answers, I suppose
that you might not have realized these considerations. Thus, I would
be happy to do a little more research for you. Perhaps I could find
one or two persons from your list of 50 authors who committed suicide.
Please post the list, and I will start my additional research.

I hope that you do not take any offense from my clarification. The
thing I want to emphasize is that many people who are new to Google
Answers are unsure as to how to post a question that will result in
the answer they want.

You seem like an honest and reasonable person, and I'm sure that as
you post additional questions and interact with additional Researchers
on Google Answers, you will gain valuable experience in how to post
questions and get answers.
