Hi deago, Congratulations on your recent graduation! Searching for a job fresh out of college can be a confusing and sometimes worrisome task. Many "career counseling" services take advantage of this, and charge often outrageous sums for help that you can obtain elswhere for free. They'll help you create your resume, learn interviewing skills, and polish your strengths [ http://www.careercc.org/doforme.html ], but you can expect to pay upwards of $15 an hour for their services [ http://www.careercc.org/faq.html ]. Let's start with the freebies: MonsterTRAK, a service of Monster.com, specializes in the newly-graduated and soon-to-be graduating. They offer a full line of help sections, from writing your resume, to virtual interviews, to job hunting advice. No fee, no catch, just register and you're on your way: MonsterTRAK - Tools [ http://content.monstertrak.monster.com/tools/ ] MonsterTRAK - Home [ http://www.monstertrak.com/ ] Jobhunt.org is a comprehensive site designed to aid all job seekers. At the bottom of the page is a table with links to job sites for each state. To the left, interviewing, resume and job hunting tips. To the right, book recommendations and links to top job sites on the 'net. Completely free, just register: Jobhunt.org [ http://www.job-hunt.org/ ] Quintessential Careers focuses on the new college grad, offering resume, interviewing and job searching advice, as well as links to paid services, and a free newsletter: Quintessential Careers [ http://www.quintcareers.com/ ] ...and for some of the "paid professionals": Superior Career.com - "Career Coaching" [ http://www.superiorcareer.com/ ] Career Destiny [ http://www.careerdestiny.com/career.html ] ...some other links that may be of some help to you: A mixed listing of both free and paid employment resources can be found here: [ http://www.nuaa-us.org/service/career-dir.html ] A facetious title, but sound advice, for free, including links to career resources: "THE 50 cent HOW TO GET A JOB LECTURE OR EMPLOYERS HIRE PEOPLE THEY LIKE WHO THEY BELIEVE WILL FIT INTO THEIR ORGANIZATION" [ http://www.angelfire.com/nj/counseling/50cents.html ] For more advice on career counselors, including how to choose one: The Career Counselor's Consortium [ http://www.careercc.org/index.htm ] Good luck in your job search! missy-ga |

Hello deago, I have personal experience with one career coach that is top notch in my book. Her name is Janice Worthington and has many years of experience in the career industry, both as a corporate recruiter and as a career consultant. She is a Certified Professional Resume Writer and has many accolades to her credit. More to the point is what she did for me personally. After searching for a new job for about nine months I decided that I wasn't getting responses for a reason that had nothing to do with my ability. I did some web searches and found a few consultants that I wanted to check out. Some of them did not return my calls or emails for weeks. This was on a Saturday afternoon. On Sunday I received a phone call from Janice. I knew that I had found a dedicated professional, but more importantly a sincere person who truly likes to help people. I received a questionnaire related to my industry and experience level. Not long after returning it to Janice I received a polished resume and cover letter. The test was a company that I had been eyeing and had already applied to with my own resume. I submitted my ASCII resume online to this company on a Friday afternoon around 4:30. By 6:00pm I received an email from the company for an interview. Amazing. Janice also provided interview training where we had a small workshop with three or four people. We talked about how to handle different questions and what answers employers would be expecting. Before I went to any interview I already knew most of the questions that could conceivably be asked...and more importantly I had already decided what my answers would be. I got other interveiw requests and finally accepted a director level position. This is my personal testimony to her wonderful personality and service. Please visit her website and email her directly. http://www.fortune500resumes.com I hope that this helps. James |
