what animal sheds the pads on its paws in late winter?

I found one reference to an animal shedding its paw pads:

"Black Bears not only shed their fur, they also shed their paw pads."
http://staff.fcps.net/jbailiff/bailiffexpo/natfeatures/animal.htm

Please note that I was unable to verify this assertion at any other
site.

Search strategy: shed "paw pads";
shed "paw pads" -"teddy bear" -cat -dog -horse -geckos;
"black bear" "paw pad";
"black bear"

If you have questions about this response or require additional
