In many many countries soccer will form part of the physical activities and team sports played by members of the military as part of their physical training. Otherwise, I don't see how soccer could be used for training in a specifically military way (save for the transferable skills of fitness, teamwork and strategy, which are why will it will form part of physical training). |

I remember reading about the Russian Sweeper Ivanov commencing his soccer career in representation of a Russian/Soviet military team, so therein may lie your answer |
