I have a big collection of books at home. Some of them are more than 50 years old, and a few are more than 150 years old. After moving to Texas I noticed that their paper started getting dry and yellow. What reasonable steps can I take to try to preserve the books? |

Hello dkulik: Thank you for the very interesting question. While there are many specialized techniques for book preservation that are used by libraries and museums, there are also several reasonable things that you can do at home to help your bound treasures last longer without significant damage. I did some searching and the best page I found for what you can do at home was at the American Institute for Conservation of Historic & Artistic Works: CARING FOR YOUR BOOKS http://aic.stanford.edu/treasure/books.html This excellent resource tells you things you should do, things you shouldn't do, and other helpful techniques for storage, maintenance and repair. I hope that this answer has been of use to you. If you require further clarification, please ask for it and allow me to respond before you rate this answer.
