Hello Sheph7,

Thank you for your question.

“What % of US GDP is the automotive manufacturing sector? Where is
this data found?”

The Bureau of Economic Analysis BEA web site provides the latest data
available.
http://www.bea.doc.gov/

According to the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) 1.1% of U.S. GDP is
the automotive manufacturing sector. This is for 2001.

You can find the Gross Domestic Product by Industry in Current Dollars
as a Percentage of Gross Domestic Product 1987-93 and 1994-2001 at the
following link:
http://www.bea.doc.gov/bea/dn2/gposhr.htm

Gross Domestic Product for motor vehicle manufacturing as a percentage
by year:

1994 1.3
1995 1.3
1996 1.2
1997 1.2
1998 1.3
1999 1.3
2000 1.2
2001 1.1

The annual revision of BEA's gross state product (GSP) estimates for
1998-99 and new estimates for 2000 were completed and released in June
2002.

There is a handy tool to retrieve all these estimates. To retrieve and
display the desired estimates, please follow steps 1 through 6 to
specify one or more GSP components, States or regions, industries, and
years in the appropriate list boxes, and to specify the format in
which the estimates will be displayed on your screen.

The GDP by industry data products previously available on diskettes
are now also available free in downloadable compressed
(self-extracting ZIP format) ASCII files.
