I am not sure what exactly the timing module does or what car you are
adding the timing module. I assume that the timing module delays
ignition timing to very near TDC, it could improve or have no effect based on
the following:
i) If the car's ignition system is not electronic, or if electronic and
does not have a knock sensor, there could be an improvement in the performance,
if the ignition is not tuned for optimum performance. The worst case is
that the delay could be too much to cause ignition farther away from TDC,
which causes loss of power.
ii) If there is a knocking sensor builtin the existing electronic ignition
system, the engine will detune automatically without any noticeable performance
improvement.
The case where the timing module could impair engine reliability is when it
advances the timing too much before TDC to cause severe knocking or backfire.
I am not a automotive expert, but this is my logical conclusion based on
my understanding of the internal combustion engines. |
