I read some years ago about some sort of investment fund that somehow
closely tracked property (i.e. real estate) prices. I think it tracked
prices in the UK or some region thereof. Can anyone find out the name
for such a fund, and the names of any companies that operate it?

I'm asking because I want to hedge some spare cash against possible
increases in prices. I want to buy a house in the south-east of
England, but not for a couple of years at least, and I want to
"insure" myself against property prices rising sharply in the
meantime.

Can anyone come up with such a fund?

Dear iffy-ga
This is a summary of a news article. Is this what you are thinking of?

...The fund will buy residential property at a low price and
refurbish. When completed, the fund will sell at a profit (if the
market is favourable), or rent. In a couple of years, the fund
projects to be worth £50m.....

If is is correct, I can provide the name of the fund, the fund
manager's web site and contact numbers.
