Question ID: 138947
What will California look like in the year 2020?

I am assembling a list of bullets (one-liners); the list will
eventually reach 150 items.

My project will include demographics, finance, housing,
economics, psychology, transportation, technology,
politics-----everything but the kitchen sink.

Examples:

1. California's population will double between 2000 and 2020.
2. California is ranked 46th among all states for Medicare
reimbursement.
3. California is now the world's 5th largest economy, ahead of most
countries in the world.

A great answer would include 20 such bullets.

All comments and forecasts (however nutty) are greatly appreciated !

nronronronro..

Interesting and fun question. The references I have provided are
simply used to determine 20 year changes and moving them out to the
next 20 years.

Here you go:

In 2020,

1. California's population will be 42.5 million people(1)
2. 15% of California's population will be over 65(1)
3. There will be 400,000 Californian's employed by the State of
California(2)
4. California will have 77 cars per 100 people (1)
5. Riverside County will be the fastest growing county in the State
(1)
6. The Gross State Product of California will be $2.3 billion dollars
(2)
7. The median family income for the State will be about $80,000 (2)
8. There will be 2.6 million people enrolled in colleges in
California (2)
9. There will be 8 million children enrolled in public schools (K-12)
(2)
10. Over $29 billion in cash receipts will be generated by
agriculture (2)
11. Cotton will surpass almonds as the top exported crop for the
State (2)
12. There will be about 6 million head of cattle in the State (2)
13. Approximately 180,000 hunting licenses issued (2)
14. 18.6 billion gallons of gasoline will be consumed by California
drivers (2)
15. 41% of the population will be Latino, 37% will be white, 5% will
be black and 17% will be Asian (1)
16. There will be 5.3 million registered Republicans and 6.8 million
registered Democrats (2)
17. Of those over 12 million registered voters (not counting 3rd
party and indpendents), less than 40% will vote in an general election
(2)
18. Cancer will surpass heart disease as the leading cause of death
(2)
19. 25,000 children will be placed for adoption (2)
20. 1.9 million people will receive some type of public assistance
(2)
21. $2.5 million worth of food stamps will be distributed (2)

Now, all of this is entirely mute is

22. California will no longer exist as it will fall off into the
Pacific

Thanks for the fun question. If you need any additional
clarification, please let me know.

-THV

Only a Tar Heel would mention us falling into the Pacific!
heh heh heh
Top-notch answer. 5 stars.

Let's make a deal: give me 30 more bullets like these
and I'll increase the value from the current $20
to $50.

If you don't have time, it's not a problem.
You'll still get the 5 stars and 20 bucks.
Just let me know your decision. Thanks for the super work...ron

Ron...

Sure. I can get you some more. Give me a little time. I will try to
have them for you by 11:00 PM EST tonight. If not, I will at least
post what I can and get the rest tomorrow, but it should be no problem

Glad you have found the answer pleasing so far.

Thanks, THV. I have added an additional $30 to the original $20, for
a total of $50. Take your time---as long as I get the 50 bullets by

I find
6. The Gross State Product of California will be $2.3 billion dollars
(2) hard to believe.
Perhaps the answerer means $2.3 trillion.
