Question ID: 139049
How many English language schools are there worldwide?
I am in a company in the english teaching market, and am doing some
market research.

By this I mean specialised schools that teach English to people who
English is not their first langauge. I tried directories like
http://www.language-learning.net/ and was told they listed
"More than 6500 schools, 90 countries, 70 languages". I only want
English, and I estimate there is many more than 6500, say 20 000
Enlglish language schools worldwide. I am not intersted in more URL's
of directories of schools, but an estimate of the total number
worldwide, accurate to say 20%.

If there is time, I have some more questions:
I would like a breakdown by country, (US UK Canada Japan China etc)

How many students in total would go through a language school in a
year?
I estimate there are about 80 on average at any one time, with 3
months being a typical length of time to stay. My guess is 80*4*20 000
schools is 6.4Million new students learning English worldwide each
year?

In the Philippines, English is a strong second language. All primary
schools up till college, English is a subject. You can't escape from
it if you are a Filipino. Just a thought. :)
