For a while now my printer will not work until I "power cycle" my
computer--after that it works fine until I boot up again, when the
problem returns. The error message I get reads: "There was an error
writing to USB/Deskjet 880 C/MY92B120CPGE for the printer (HP Deskjet
880C): The printer is not ready. Make sure it is turned on and online.
To continue printing, click retry. Windows will automatically retry
after 5 seconds."
Note that the message is incorrect in every particular.
I associate the beginning of the problem with an instance in which the
printer was printing and ran out of paper, but I could be wrong.
I use IE/Win 98. |

Hi,
Can you give more information about your system? What is the CPU,
brand, model and/or chipset of your PC? Any information, especially
motherboard chipset could be helpful.

I have a Dell Inspiron laptop, 250 K Ram. I don't know what a "chipset" is.

I had a similar problem in Windows 98, and found a workaround
which may work for you:
Go to Start -> Settings -> Printers -> Your Printer. Right-click
and select Properties. Go to the Ports tab. From here, my memory
of WIN98 is a bit weak, but what you want to do is 'capture'
your default printer port (usually LPT1). The capture process
takes a little time, so be patient. When done, click OK, close
down the dialog and retry printing. If it works, let me know.
If you have trouble figuring out how to capture the port,
let me know that, too, and I'll try to dig up *exact*
instructions.
