Dear andre8291-ga; Thank you for allowing me an opportunity to answer your interesting question. First, I recommend that you follow this link: MICROSOFT PRODUCT SUPPORT SERVICES How to Troubleshoot Windows 95 Shutdown Problems http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;en-us;q145926 I also recommend you print this document if possible or get someone else to do it for you before you get started as some of the steps will lead you away from the instruction page or require you to take your computer off line in order to reboot. Follow the steps beginning with the first to try and eliminate some of the potential causes. If your problem is due to some kind of error, which I suspect that it is, one of these troubleshooting tips will likely find it. Additionally, you can scan your computer using Symantecs online scanner to make sure that you are absolutely free of any viruses. SYMANTEC http://security.symantec.com/ssc/vc_scan.asp?j=1&langid=ie&venid=sym&plfid=20&pkj=TNMEPJUIYCZRWEJGSSK If you still have a virus you can also find a removal tool on this site: SYMANTEC http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.bugbear@mm.removal.tool.html or this one: BIZWEB http://www.bizwebpage.top5hosting.com/freeware/Bugbear/ You may need to run one of these fixes even if you dont find the virus in the scan because if the virus is imbedded in your registry your computer can become re-infected again and again each time you reboot. Adaware is one of the best tools around for making sure that any annoying, unwanted or conflicting programs are not running in the background causing your computer to hang up: ADAWARE http://www.adaware.com If all else fails and you think the shutdown problem is similar to the problems reported by others who have become infected with the W32/Bugbear@MM virus, you can get technical help for a fee here: GEEK HELP http://www.888geekhelp.com/index_virus.html I hope you find that that my research exceeds your expectations. If you have any questions about my research please post a clarification request prior to rating the answer. I welcome your rating and your final comments and I look forward to working with you again in the near future. Thank you for bringing your question to us. Very complete answer. However, the Microsof Wizard for shut-down problems wasn't available and Windows 95 doesn't support the Symantec security scanner. I did get rid of the BUGBEAR virus, however, and that seems to have solved the problem. So, thank you! |
