Question ID: 139425
Where on the web are some recent and good articles from
reliable sources about the near future (i.e. next year
or two) of the home PC?

I would like URLs of articles with info especially on:

 - The 64-bit core instruction set that will
   be *standard* for tomorrow's PC

 - When most home users will have 64-bit PCs
that can run 64-bit Windows applications

 - compatibility with 32-bit and 16-bit Windows
   applications

Thanks!

bugleboy,

I am interested in answering your question, but I believe that to
answer it well, your question will require more time and effort than
the average amount of time and effort associated with this price. Here

If you are willing to raise your price and also post a clarification

Looks like the 64-bit question is answered nicely. I just finished
reading an article in "The Economist" magazine entitled "The new shape
of computing" that I thought I would mention. While it does not cover
the 64-bit question, it does talk about how computing is becoming more
personal, finding its way to PDAs and cell phones. I hope you find it
interesting.

You may also want to read about Windows XP 64-bit Edition

In particular, you may be interested in the section on 32-bit
compatability
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/64bit/techinfo/planning/techoverview/desktop.asp

While it is available now, it sounds as if it is still considered a
"preview release" that Microsoft does not expect widespread adoption
of in the near future.
