Where on the web are some recent and good articles from reliable sources about the near future (i.e. next year or two) of the home PC? I would like URLs of articles with info especially on: - The 64-bit core instruction set that will be *standard* for tomorrow's PC - When most home users will have 64-bit PCs that can run 64-bit Windows applications - compatibility with 32-bit and 16-bit Windows applications Thanks! | |

Looks like the 64-bit question is answered nicely. I just finished reading an article in "The Economist" magazine entitled "The new shape of computing" that I thought I would mention. While it does not cover the 64-bit question, it does talk about how computing is becoming more personal, finding its way to PDAs and cell phones. I hope you find it interesting. http://www.economist.com/opinion/displayStory.cfm?story_id=1454436 |

You may also want to read about Windows XP 64-bit Edition http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/64bit/overview.asp In particular, you may be interested in the section on 32-bit compatability http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/64bit/techinfo/planning/techoverview/desktop.asp While it is available now, it sounds as if it is still considered a "preview release" that Microsoft does not expect widespread adoption of in the near future. |
