Renaissance Weekends, the invitation only events made famous by the
Clinton's participation in the 80's are still around. See
http://www.renaissanceweekend.org/.

My question is – how much does it cost to participate? Because the
even is invitation only, they do not post any such information on
their web site. Invitees presumably get those details in their
invite. I know there is a charge for the conference that is over
and above whatever one would spend for accommodations at the resort
hotel. Call that the conference fee. How much is the conference fee?
How much additional is charged to bring a guest/spouse? I also see
that they have a youth program in conjunction – how much more does
that cost? A price sheet, intended for invited guests only, would
provide all these answers.

Thanks!!

Dear jmhines123-ga:

Well, this one looks like it's going to be a tough on, if not unlikley
to answer. As you can see from the response I got to an email request,
they have declined to answer my questions:

-----------------------------------------------
Dear (researcher):

We are so sorry, but the information you requested is only available
to our
invited guests. Participation at a Renaissance Weekend is by
invitation
only.

Regards,
Janna Maes

Having said that, if you are an invitee, then perhaps we can approach
it from that angle. If not, then it will be very difficult to obtain
this information - at least directly from them.

Regards;
tutuzdad

Several years ago, a newspaper of national stature published prices
for attending Renaissance Weekends (conference fees for couples,
singles, and children). This publication is highly credible. Although
this article was from 1997, it at least will give you a "ballpark"
idea of the cost of participating in a Renaissance Weekend. Would the
prices from this article (and a way to obtain the full-text article if
you wish) be acceptable as an answer?

Yes, it sounds like the article would fill the request.

Hello.

As of 1997, "tuition" for a Renaissance Weekend was $500 per couple,
$300 per individual and $50 per child.

From the February 12, 1997 issue of the Washington Post:

"The Renaissance Weekend has become a Washington growth industry.
Begun in 1981 as an annual retreat for mostly Southern, mostly
do-gooding good old boys and girls, it attracted fewer than 500 people
as recently as six years ago.
...
In addition to hotel and travel expenses, each family and couple pays
$500 tuition. Individuals pay $300. Kids cost an extra 50 bucks."
