Hello smiley4214:

The best place online to find circa-1900 photos of the York, Maine
area is The Maine Memory Network.

The Maine Memory Network
http://www.mainememory.net/home.shtml

If you go to there advanced search page at:

http://www.mainememory.net/user/search_advanced.shtml

and enter the following information:

County: York
Document Type: Images (photos, paintings, drawings, etc)
Year Range:
   From: 1890
   To: 1910

and click on the "search" button, you get a listing of about 80
photos. You can, of course, adjust the date ranges if you want to
broaden or narrow the time scope.

Please let me know (by using the Clarification Request feature)
whether this answer is sufficient to your needs, or whether you need
further searching done on this subject. If you do need more, please
provide as much detail about what you are looking for as possible in
order that I may better assist you.

Thank you.

Following the directions for search leads me to Search Results"-Year
span: 1890-1910 - Type Limiters: Images, -County Limiters: York"-
82 historical documents were found". Under "view as table" 12 images
are shown which are of no interest to me, and there does not appear to
be any access
to the rest of the 82 images.

The Search Strategy at he bottom of the page shows internet sites
which include some symbols that are infimiliar to me or my keyboard.
What now?

Hello smiley4214:

Thank you for the clarification request. I'm sorry you are having
trouble.

1. I went to the Maine Memory site to verify your difficulties with
the search results pages. I also ran in to the same problem. When I
answered the question, this problem did not occur. I have sent an
email to the site to request a fix.

2. As for the search strategies having unknown characters in them, you
should be able to just click on the link itself (that is, you
shouldn't have to type it in) to recreate the search. If that doesn't
work for you, just go to www.google.com, type in the *words*
themselves (e.g., york maine history photos OR photographs OR
pictures) exactly as shown, and hit enter to recreate the search.

I'll let you know as soon as I hear anything.

Thank you for your patience.
