Wow, I hadn't even realized there had been portuguese explorers in
that part of South America. I thought they had only explored the areas
that have become Brazil. It sounds like an interesting paper topic.
One thing you might want to do before you get an answer is check with
your teacher to make sure it's ok for you to have someone else compile
a list of sources for you. Often part of the purpose of paper
assignments isn't just to have you learn about the paper topic, or
learn how to write the paper itself, but also to have you practice
locating and using relevent sources. If that's part of what you're
teacher had in mind, using Google Answers would be having someone else
complete your assignment.
If the answer to this quesiton is useful to your paper, it should be
listed among your references in your Bibliography. If you're hesitant
to list it in your Bibliography it might be because you're not sure
you should be using the service. Check with your teacher and find out
for sure. Note that if finding sources is part of the assignment,
posing the question here is not appropriate (see
http://answers.google.com/answers/help.html).
When you go to locate sources, it's unlikely that you'll find sources
appropriate for a high school or early undergraduate level that deals
entirely and exactly with your topic. A better strategy might be to
look up books on Portuguese colonialism and check the index for
references to 'Peru', 'Bolivia' and 'Chile'. Then find books on Peru,
Bolivia, and Chile and look up portugal or portuguese explorers in the
index. And of course, in both cases check the books' bibliographies
for the names of other sources that might prove useful.
Travel guides to those countries might also point you to useful
information since some remnants of portugues colonialism may have
become local attractions.
Note that I said books. Internet sources are good supplemental sources
and good places to find references to other sources, but a strong
paper will be based largely on published sources.
