king88,
Thanks for your question. I have done several website critiques here
on Google Answers and would be pleased to do the same for you. Being
that you do not want comments on the coding, I will limit my comments
to strictly the content and other features. First and foremost, I
must concur with Omnivorous-ga in that the first impression I get from
the site is that it is a betting and gambling related information
site. If that is the desired effect, then you have achieved your goal
splendidly. Regarding Sammy128-ga's comment regarding speed, I
checked it on a service that verifies load time and here is the
information:
14.4K 111.46 seconds
28.8K 55.73 seconds
56K 28.18 seconds
128K ISDN 11.66 seconds
The responsivenes when choosing links is also very sluggish. Your
page is over 180K which is way too big. Keep one think in mind, every
2.5k you add to your page translates to another second of load time
for users on a 28.8 modem. Now, with that out of the way, let's look
at some positives.
The layout and navigation is very good. It is very simple to get to
where I want to go and know how to get there. The teaser information
is nice in that a user can get some idea as to what information they
can get on your site. The color scheme is very simple and doesn't
take away from the content. The right side boxes, however, could be
removed as they have no content. This would allow for two things: 1)
Your page would load faster, and 2) it would add to the content in
that your site would be providing additional information as opposed
areas of the page that, in reality, don't add to the site.
I went through the subscription process and noticed that the order
page is not a secure page, though it says it is. I, personally, will
not enter any personal information that is not on an encypted (little
lock in the lower right hand corner of my browser)page. Sure, there
are people who don't know the difference, but more and more people are
concerned with security and this may cause them not to want to provide
their credit card information. Also, I will never provide credit card
information or order anything via a website that does not have a phone
number available. Email addresses are fine, but if I am going to
spend money, especially for a service with no tangible goods in
return, I want a phone number available that I can call should there
be any problems. Also, I don't know exactly what I am getting for my
membership fee. Maybe an archived page of previous picks and
information, from say last year or a few weeks ago. This would allow
someone who is interested in signing up for the service to see what
exactly what they are paying for and how it differentiates from the
free information that is provided.
These are a few ideas that come to mind when looking at your site. I
hope the above information is helpful. If you need any additional
clarification, please let me know via the Request for Clarification
option prior to rating my answer. Thanks again for your question and
good luck!
Regards,
-THV
