Can you help me find the spelling for a medical term I heard my doctor
say? He mentioned chronic "depria" cystitis. It is something to do
with the eye/eyelid, probably inflammation or infection. It is
pronounced depr-ee-a, I believe. I spent one hour searching and tried
"depria" and "deperi".
None of the medical glossaries were of any help. Please answer
this question only if you have some medical background or training.

rosemary25,

I believe that the term you are seeking is "dacryosystitis".

From St. Luke's Cataract & Laser Institute:
"Dacryocystitis is an infection of the tear sac that lies between the
inner corner of the eyelids and the nose. It usually results from
blockage of the duct that carries tears from the tear sac to the nose.
The blocked duct harbors bacteria and becomes infected. Dacryocystitis
may be acute (sudden onset) or chronic (frequently recurs). It may be
related to a malformation of the tear duct, injury, eye infection, or
trauma."

rosemary25,

My apologies; I mispelled the first occurrence of this word. It should
be "dacryocystitis".
