Botswana is located at the geographical coordinates of 22 00 S and 24
00 E which makes it part of Africa.
Total area of Botswana is 600,370sq km which breaks down to 15,000sq
km of water and 585,370sq km of land. By comparison, that is an area
slightly smaller than Texas.
Botswana is landlocked with a total of 4,013km of borders, bordering
Namibia with 1,360 km, South Africa with 1,840km, and Zimbabwe with
813km of its borders.
Its climate produces warm winters, and hot summers. The terrain is
"predominantly flat to gently rolling tableland". The Kalahari Desert
can be found in the southwest of the country.
The lowest elevation point in Botswana is at the junction of the
Limpopo and Shashe Rivers standing at 513m, and the highest elevation
point can be found in the Tsodilo Hills, standing 1,489m tall.
Major natural resources of Botswana are diamonds, copper, nickel,
salt, soda ash, potash, coal, iron ore, and silver.
Natural hazards include periodic droughts and seasonal August winds
blowing from the west, carrying sand and dust across the country,
which can obscure visibility.
Current environmental issues include overgrazing, desertification, and
limited fresh water resources.
