What is the best way to sell an idea for improving a product?

When you say "sell an idea", who are you selling it to?  Internal
management at a company, or an external customer, or...?

What type of product are you trying to improve?  (i.e., which broad
category is it in?)

Are there any other details you can provide?

Yes, I suppose it would be to internal management. The furntiture
would be rocking chairs and rocking recliners.
