I want a list of all companies in the Twin Cities metro area that
employ IT staff (programmers, architects, etc) along with a URL to
their website. I'd like all public and private companies.

Hi iacovou-ga,

I answered your other question about IT recruiters in the Twin Cities
and I’d love to help you with your job search. (I’m assuming that
you’re looking for a job for yourself.) As a Google Answers Researcher
I always feel intimidated when someone asks for ALL of anything. It
may not be possible to get ALL and yet give you what you really need.

In your case, ALL companies that employ IT staff in the Twin Cities
area could be a very long, but not particularly useful, list. Taking a
more targeted approach is more likely to give you better results. What
kind of IT job are you looking for? What are your preferred
industries? How much and what kind of experience do you have? Again,
I’d love to help you with your job search. The more information you
share, the better the research results. If you need the list of
companies for some other reason, please share that information. I look
forward to working with you.

Hello again iacovou-ga,

I’ve collected a variety of sites that take you to Twin Cities
employers. Since almost all companies employ IT people and computer
programmers, I didn’t screen to see what kinds of opening they had. I
recommend that you review the company lists. I’m sure you will already
be familiar with some of them. On most of the sites below you can
click through to the company Web page so you can research the ones you
don’t know about.

In today’s economy, I don’t think it makes sense to rely only on open
job postings. I think it’s better to identify companies that you’re
interested in, find out what their needs are, get familiar with what
they’re up to and come up with a game plan as to how you could
contribute to their goals and projects. Do as much research as you can
on the company and then network to look for personal referrals to make
connections with people inside. Don’t worry whether they have an
opening or not. Instead, find companies that are desirable for you and
try to connect with people who work there. Most jobs never make it to
the open job market. You want to be a known quantity so people will
think of you when openings come along.

I included a few job boards. You can use the search results to browse
for companies – whether they have your kind of jobs available or not.
It’s another way to build your roster of target organizations.

I hope your job search is going well.
