The earliest mention of it I can find is April 27, 1995 at: http://www.gonzoville.com/DoK/msmiller/humor/manenuff.html but whether this is the first "publication" of it or not...who knows! |

After sifting through dozens of copies on the Internet (all without any citation or reference to any original publication), and searching online magazine indices, and reading 4 biographies listing all known works by him, I came up with absolutely nothing. It is highly likely that the piece was not really written by Denis Leary. http://www.snopes.com/language/document/carlin.htm Maybe asking the man himself would answer it for good: Agent: c/o William Morris Agency, 151 South El Camino Dr., Beverly Hills, CA 90212-2704 |

He wrote articles for various periodicals, but if this is one of them, it's not showing up in some of the standard indexes. |

This fan site indicates that "Are You Man Enough" was published in either Playboy or New York Magazine. http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/Hills/4735/bio.html markj-ga |
