Why is it that on keying in the words - for example, 'Durand', 'Ganymede'
- there are results and yet there is no matching result when doing the
same under 'search images' option.

Hello ara1972,

Great question! I am assuming you are searching for these terms
exactly as you have typed them :

'Durand' 'Ganymede'

Searching for either by itself will show search and image results. The
problem you are facing is not uncommon, so hang in there. The images
are indexed by their names, the domain names they reside under, and a
few other *unknown* assigned values that Google chooses.(We
ressearchers are a seperate entity of Google, and don't have access to
such information:-)

In short, using the search terms you used narrows down the results to
an image that has both a 'Durand' and 'Ganymede' relation. There
simply is no image in the Google index that meets your requirements.
There are however, pages in the Google index that contain both terms,
thus the search results. (Google uses the AND operator by default)

You could try searching for both, to see if it will help meet your
needs. You can do this by typing :

Ganymede OR Durand
http://images.google.com/images?q=Ganymede+OR+Durand

This way you can compare the results of both, side by side.

A search strategy was not needed for this answer. If you would like to

further help!

When keying in 'Pope' OR 'John Paul II' under 'search images' option
Durand's picture does not come up. Ditto 'H.H. Dalai Lama'. Ditto
'Ganymede'. Ditto 'Pegasus'. A visit to our site

question.

Hello ara1972-

Hmmm - If the underlying question is to ask why your images are not
appearing in the Google image index, it could be for many different
reasons :

- Your image directory permissions
- Your robots.txt file forbids indexing of the image directory
- Google simply chooses not to index them
- Not enough information associated with the images

A good place to start is to check your server logs for the Googlebot
to see if ever accesses your image directory. If it is not, then you
may want to check the folder permissions or your web server settings.

I hope this helps you narrow down the problem! Should you need further
assistance, simply ask for clarification.

I don't know how either search option actually works, but I would
guess that the regular Google Search looks for the search terms
occuring anywhere in the meta tags of the page or anywhere in the
actual body of the text. The image probably limits itself to the
image's file name or mouseover tag. Otherwise, if you searched for
"monkey" in image search then you would get every single image that
occurred on a page containing the word "monkey". This would give you
ALL the images, including buttons, title graphics, banners, and the
page still might not have a picture of a monkey on it.

...and anyway, I just did an Image Search under the term ganymede and
got 4,330 results. Very pretty they were too.
